Thomas Jefferson

Thomas Jefferson served as the 3rd President of the United States from:

March 4, 1801 – March 4, 1809

He served two terms, following John Adams and preceding James Madison.

  • 1800 Election: Defeated John Adams in a famously bitter and complicated race (resulting in a tie with Aaron Burr that had to be settled by the House of Representatives).

  • 1804 Election: Re-elected in a landslide against Charles Cotesworth Pinckney.
