Sean Astin is an American actor, director, and producer, best known for his roles as Mikey Walsh in *The Goonies* (1985), Daniel “Rudy” Ruettiger in *Rudy* (1993), and Samwise Gamgee in *The Lord of the Rings* trilogy (2001–2003). He has also appeared in *Stranger Things* (2017) as Bob Newby and voiced Raphael in the animated series *Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles* (2012–2017).
Born on February 25, 1971, in Santa Monica, California, Astin is the son of actress Patty Duke and was adopted by actor John Astin.
