Sean Astin is an American actor, director, and producer, best known for his roles as Mikey Walsh in *The Goonies* (1985), Daniel “Rudy” Ruettiger in *Rudy* (1993), and Samwise Gamgee in *The Lord of the Rings* trilogy (2001–2003). He has also appeared in *Stranger Things* (2017) as Bob Newby and voiced Raphael in the animated series *Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles* (2012–2017).

Born on February 25, 1971, in Santa Monica, California, Astin is the son of actress Patty Duke and was adopted by actor John Astin. He began his acting career at age 8 and gained early fame with *The Goonies*. citeturn0search0 He later earned a BA from UCLA and completed a master’s degree in public administration and policy at American University in 2024.
